Still Life with Apricots is a traditional composition of flowers and fruits rich with symbolism. The spilt wine glass and the scallop shells speak of transience. The beauty of the image belies the ever presence of the decay. Look closely and you will find caterpillars eating the leaves, one having fallen off onto the table.
